GCSE Maths, Biology & Chemistry · Years 9–11 · Online

Whether you're chasing a 6 or a 9.

Most students lose marks they already know how to win — they run out of time, misread the command word, or panic. We fix that by making exam conditions routine, so the paper stops being the thing that undoes months of work. Grades move. So does the atmosphere at home on a Sunday night.

No obligation, and you get the written assessment whether or not you carry on.

Programmes

Two ways to work with us. Both start the same way.

Every student begins with a free diagnostic, because the plan should come from evidence rather than a guess. After that you choose the programme that fits how much time is left and how far there is to go.

Everyone starts here

The Diagnostic

A single session that tells you exactly where the marks are going.

Free60 minutes, one-to-one

  • A real past paper from your board, under exam conditions
  • Marked against the official mark scheme
  • Written summary of the topics and question types losing marks
  • A recommended plan to the target grade
  • No obligation to continue
Most families choose this

  • One 60-minute live session a week
  • Independent work set and marked between lessons
  • A full mock under exam conditions every four weeks

  • A full past paper every week, marked and reviewed
  • Targeted work on the highest-value topics first
  • Exam-technique and timing coaching
  • Weekly progress report to parents

Blocks are paid in advance. Cancel or move a lesson with 24 hours' notice at no charge. No joining fee and no contract beyond the block you've booked.

The method

Three things school rarely has time to do.

Classes are large and mixed-ability, so the student who is behind and the student capable of a 9 often get the same lesson. Ours is built around where each student actually is — closing gaps for one, chasing the last few marks for the other.

01

Exam conditions, from week one

Timed papers, silence, no notes. Students meet exam pressure every week instead of once, in June, when it counts. Top-grade students learn to hold their accuracy under the clock; anxious students learn the room is survivable.

02

Work between the lessons

Every session ends with a written plan for the week, and the work is marked before the next lesson. This is the part that actually moves grades, and the part students skip — so we track it and tell you when it isn't happening.

03

Past papers with the working shown

Every paper comes with a step-by-step solution showing where each mark is earned — method marks in maths, command words and mark-scheme wording in biology and chemistry. Not just the answer.

How we raise the pressure

[4 stages]
1Guided — untimed, help on tapLearn the method and read the mark scheme. No clock, no stress.
2Timed, with hints availableBuild speed. They can ask, but the clock is running.
3Full exam conditionsTimed, silent, closed book. The real thing, weekly.
4Complete mock, then a marked reviewA score to track and a clear list of what to fix next. Every four weeks.

What you actually get

Every week, in writing.

Tutoring is easy to buy and hard to judge. These are the things that should arrive whether or not anyone chases for them.

A written plan for the weekSet at the end of every lesson, so nobody has to remember what was agreed.
Marked work, before the next sessionEvery piece submitted comes back with feedback. Effort always gets a response.
A mock score every four weeksProgress you can see as a number, not an opinion about how it's going.
A fortnightly update to parentsWhat's improved, what hasn't, and what we're doing about it.

Who teaches

Tutors who sat these papers recently — and got the top grades in them.

Our tutors are medical students and students at Russell Group universities. They are close enough to their own GCSEs to remember exactly how the papers work, and close enough in age that students actually tell them when they're stuck.

That closeness needs firm boundaries, so everyone teaching for Skybound meets the same bar before their first session.

Grade 8 or 9 in the subject they teachCertificate checked, every time.
Enhanced DBS with children's barred list checkIn place before any session, and kept current.
Safeguarding trainingCompleted during induction, before teaching.
Two references and an observed trial lessonBefore they're added to the roster.
Trained in our methodSo every student gets the same structure, whoever teaches them.
Parents may sit in on any lessonAll contact happens on our platform, never private channels.

Being straight with you

We're new. Here's why that's not a reason to walk away.

Skybound is a young company, so we don't have a wall of testimonials yet. Rather than pretend otherwise, we've built the service so you don't have to take anything on trust.

You try before you pay

The diagnostic is a full hour, marked properly, with a written assessment you keep. If we're not the right fit, you've still got a clear picture of where the marks are going.

Prices are on this page

No quote required, no sales call before you're told what it costs. What you see here is what you pay, and there's no contract past the block you've booked.

You deal with the founder

Skybound is small, deliberately. You're talking to the person responsible for the teaching, not an account manager, and that will stay true while we're this size.

Subjects

Three subjects, properly.

We teach a narrow set so every tutor knows the specification, the common traps and the mark schemes inside out.

Maths

Foundation and Higher. Method marks, timing, and the question types that decide grade boundaries.

Biology

Combined and Separate. Command words, required practicals, and six-mark extended answers.

Chemistry

Combined and Separate. Calculations, equations, and the mark-scheme wording examiners look for.

We cover AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Eduqas. Tell us the board when you enquire and we'll match the past papers and mark schemes to it. Year 9 through to Year 11, plus resit and private candidates.

Refer a friend

If you recommend Skybound to another family and they book a block, we'll take two lessons off their first block and two off yours. Most of how we grow is parents talking to other parents, so it's the thanks that makes sense.

Questions

The things parents ask first.

Is this only for students who are struggling?

No. A good share of our work is with students already on a 6 or 7 who want a 9. The method is the same — exam conditions, marked work, worked solutions — but the content is different. A student chasing a 9 spends their time on the hardest questions on the paper and on the precision the mark scheme rewards, which is where those marks are lost.

Which year groups do you teach?

Year 9 through to Year 11, plus students resitting or sitting as private candidates. Year 9 is often the best time to start — early enough to fix foundations before the content gets heavy, and those students tend to need the least cramming later.

How do you know where my child actually is?

The free diagnostic. A full hour, under exam conditions, on a paper from their board, marked against the real mark scheme. You get a written summary of which topics and question types are losing marks. The plan is built from that rather than from a guess based on their last report.

One-to-one or a group?

One-to-one suits students with large gaps, low confidence, or a tight deadline. Groups work well for students roughly on track who find a peer group motivating, and they cost less per hour. Groups are capped at five. You can switch at the end of any block.

How much work is set between lessons?

Usually one to two hours a week, set at the end of each lesson and marked before the next one. This is the part that moves grades and also the part students skip, so we track it and tell you when it isn't happening.

Are your tutors DBS checked?

Yes. Every tutor holds an enhanced DBS with a children's barred list check before their first session, and keeps it current. We're happy to show the certificate on request. Private tutoring isn't legally required to be checked, which is exactly why we think you should ask every tutor you consider.

What happens if we need to cancel a lesson?

Give us 24 hours' notice and we'll move it at no charge. Inside 24 hours the lesson is charged, because the tutor has already prepared and held the slot.

Do you guarantee a grade?

No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. We can promise the structure, the practice volume and the feedback. We track every student's mock scores so you can see progress in numbers rather than take our word for it.
